Spread the word about Xubuntu

Xubuntu 8.10 is coming, and the world needs to know it!

To make this easier for you, Pasi Lallinaho (Xubuntu’s marketing lead) has prepared an image that shows how many days are yet to come before 8.10 will be released.

And that’s where you come in to play: show the image on your own website, blog, profile page or whatever, by including the following HTML code:

<a href="http://xubuntu.org" title="Learn more about Xubuntu..."><img src="http://xubuntu.org/xubuntu-static/intrepid-countdown/index.php" alt="Countdown to Xubuntu (xubuntu.org) 8.10, by Pasi Lallinaho"></a>

Let’s introduce many more users to the wonderful world of Xubuntu :)

    I have loaded it to my Family Website (Invitation Only) I am just trying out Xubuntu on 2 System ( One is 8 years Old and the other is a New Custom build) And love it. I started with Ubuntu then downloaded Xubuntu to be able to switch Sessions at will.
    Are there any articles comparing Xfce to others. The speed I know about but all of the other features would be of Interest.
    Thank You

    Added to my blog, XFCE is great.

    My first and currently using linux has been xubuntu! Yeah!

    To me this will offer very little I want. Based on the beta of Ubuntu, it will offer no Openoffice 3, claws mail is still v3.5 in repositories (not 3.6), kernel so far panics on suspend to ram (rt61pci module problems) and on resume get a black screen with no life, no direct rendering mach64 module included, same xfce version. Hence, why promote this?

    Would happen to know if there will new icon set for Xubuntu 8.10?

  7. 7 Vincent 7 October 2008 at 1:48 pm

    @Jon – I’m not sure if you noticed, but this is a “Xubuntu Blog”, targeted at people who do like Xubuntu (yes, despite the fact that you don’t like it because you need OpenOffice 3, Claws Mail 3.6 and experience bugs), and who thus might feel like promoting it.
    Of course, you might still like Xubuntu, but I can’t tell because I don’t know what it is that you want in e.g. the new OpenOffice – the new version of Abiword that’s included with Xubuntu is very nice.

    @Mohan – the idea was to include GNOME-colors, but unfortunately it hasn’t been packaged in time and likely won’t make it in this release (which I’m a bit fed up about, but then again – I can’t package :( ).

    Hi Jon,

    You can install Open Office 3 yourself. It is quite easy :-)

    Regards,

    Rob Tunru ( running 64 bits Solaris 10 update 5 with Open Office 2.X and Firefox 2.x )

    I am totally in love with Xubuntu. Actually i am totally in love with XFCE, beacuse it’s stable, light and doesn’t gives me headaches like kde did in the past. I am putting all my hopes in 8.10 :X

    @Vincent @xubuntu

    The cafelinux.org developers are looking for a few good Xubuntu/XFCE Users to help as Global Mavens(Moderators) at the new Xubuntu Forums:

    http://www.xubuntuforums.org/

    Please contact me directly at ~ ravtux AT gmail DOT com ~ or simply join the Xubuntu forums and PM me a message, reference this post and invitation and I will enable you as Universal Mavens.

    This invitation is specifically to both of you as you both seem pretty knowledgeable with both Xubuntu and XFCE. I am impressed with your Xubuntu Blogs and How-To’s. Please keep in mind that the Xubuntuforums.org would be a great place for you to reference post to your Xubuntu blogs.

    @Dean

    I notice that you not only use XFCE and Xubuntu but are also a Spanish speaker as well, we also would need a native Spanish speaker to help in our Xubuntu International Support forums as well as the Xubuntu Forums overall. This invitation to join the Xubuntuforums.org Staff as a Universal Maven is also extended to you.

    @Vincent

    My apologies for posting this in the comments section but I have been searching for a email for you for days and decided to give up and just post here.

    I look forward to hearing from all.

    Just to make it clear; here is the static news statement on the xubuntuforums.org website, and this is also on the user registration and rules agreement:

    “Welcome! to Xubuntuforums.org, this is a Xubuntu Users Community Forum. Xubuntuforums.org is in ‘NO’ way approved, affiliated or sponsored by Canonical Ltd., Ubuntu, Kubuntuforums.net, Ubuntuforums.org or their related projects. We strive to bring to the GNU/Linux, Open Source community specific; discussion, development, help, support and advocacy for Xubuntu, XFCE, and Xubuntu derivatives.”

    It is pretty clear that xubuntuforums.org is NOT affiliated with Canonical Ltd., Ubuntu or any of it’s affiliates in any way.

    PS: Thanks for the email Vincent. I totally missed the email link on your about page.

    To all Xubuntu users:

    There is professional support for Xubuntu on the Official Ubuntu Forums, please go there instead. Xubuntu Forums was set up by Rav-Tux to get back at the Ubuntu community for his rejection.

    Rav-Tux was sacked as an Ubuntu Forums Staff member and later banned for being unproffessional and constantly posting spam. It appears that the same trend is being followed on his latest offering.

    I don’t wish to flame, I just want proffessional support for my fellow Xubuntu users.
